"Mitt Romney's Controversial Statements In Israel": The Lack of Competition from the GOP
In 1980 the United States was going through very rough economic times to put it mildly. We are actually technically growing as an economy and were creating jobs. Something like 8M jobs were actually created under President Carter and he had a better Jobs Record then both President George W. Bush and President Obama. But whatever gains that the economy was making, were getting wiped out by high Inflation and Interest Rates, the costs of living were way too high for the economy to be healthy. Its not just the the Republican Party was the Opposition Party in 1980, as well as the Minority Party in Congress but that they had a Leader in Ronald Reagan. That knew what he believed in and how to communicate that message, how to get Americans behind and plus by the late 1970s and 1980. The country was getting tired of Big Government and to a certain extent saw President Carter as a defender of Big Government and took that frustration out on President Carter. As Ron Reagan was able to speak to their fears and offer solutions to their problems, whether those solutions worked or not. Jump ahead to 1992 with President Bush, the economy was in similar condition as it was in 1980, actual Economic and Job Growth. That was being pushed aside by high Inflation and Interest Rates and the Democrats had Bill Clinton who was able to speak to the peoples concern and offer solutions for them.
With the way the economy is right now, this election should be a blowout in favor of the Republican Party. Because the Democrats are in the White House and control the Senate but at best for the GOP right now, its a tossup with Mitt Romney actually trailing in some key Republican States. Like Ohio, Virginia and Florida, yes they are Swing States but they all have Republican Governments and tend to vote Republican for President at least recently. They all voted Democratic in 2008 for President, the economy is still bad and yet President Obama still holds leads in each of those States. Three big Republican States that Mitt Romney has to have in order to win the Presidency. So why is that, how come Mitt Romney doesn't have like a ten point lead right now and up around 50% in the polls instead of 40% and is losing in the Swing States.
I've been saying for over a year now that President Obama's best asset is his competition or lack of competition. I don't mean this to put him down, down the line I believe President Obama will be viewed as a successful President but that doesn't exactly play well politically in the here and now. In some ways Barack Obama is the most unluckiest man in American Politics but in other ways the luckiest because his enemies are turning out to be his friends. Because they don't have a Leader that knows what he believes, stands by it and can communicate that message to Americans. To get them to vote for him and against the President.
