One of the classic games in the Giants-Redskins rivalry. This time the Giants striking by taking out the Redskins starting quarterback Joe Theisman. Who at this point was still one of the best QB's in the NFL. And OLB Lawrence Taylor and DE Leonard Marshal combined to break Joe T's leg and ending his career. But good football teams are good, because they can even suffer an injury like that and still comeback and make a game of it, if not win the game and beat a good football team like the New York Giants in 1985. Because they have depth. Which is what the Redskins had in 1985. They lose Joe T and go to Jay Schroeder and Schroeder brings them back.
Jay Schroeder, who I believe was in his second season at this point. Was going to get an opportunity to play for the Redskins and be their quarterback of the future. Theisman, was having at best a mediocre season in 85 and was in his 12th season in the league and was 36 years old. LT and Marshal taking Theisman out just sped up the process. The Redskins, knew they had a big strong athletic young QB in Jay Schroeder, who just needed that opportunity. If it wasn't in 85, Schroeder probably gets a shot at winning the starting job in 1986.
